Accessing Assignments

In order to access the assignments page, teachers must make sure they are currently in a class. From here, they can click on the Assignments tab on the left side of the page. If you cannot locate the assignments tab, check the custom tabs setting in the setup class tab.

A look at the Assignments page

Upon entering the assignments page, teachers will see several different features to help them navigate through the page:

  • A [+] Create Assignment button.

  • A Restore Deleted Assignments button.

  • Columns displaying assignment name, publish date, due date, and submissions.

  • Teachers can publish or unpublished assignments by respectively clicking on the green 'Published' button or the blue 'Publish' button under the Publish Date column.

  • The submissions column will display the number of students that have submitted the assignments out of the number of students in the class. Clicking on these numbers will take the teacher to the submissions grading page.

  • The far-right column displays different 'tools' that teachers can use on the assignments page. Teachers could access discussions from an assignment (if applicable). As another option, teachers can copy, print, edit, or delete assignments.

  • Clicking on the notification (circled in blue) will take the teacher to the quick grader page for that assignment (similar to the What needs grading widget).

How to Create an Assignment

After clicking on the [+] Assignment button, teachers will be directed to a page where they can fill out the assignment instructions and important settings. On the right-hand side of the screen, there will be a menu that has the basic settings for assignments, so there is no need to go directly into the activity settings right away.

If a teacher wishes to see more advanced settings then they can click on the settings tab after they fill out the instruction for the assignment. The different settings to create an assignment are:

  • General Details

  • Publish and Due Date

  • Student Submission

  • Student Review

  • Grading

  • Assigning

  • Advanced Settings

    • A time limit can be set on the test

    • One question can be displayed at a time

    • The order of questions can be randomized for each student

For more information on some of the assignment settings, please view our article on activity settings.

After adjusting the settings for the assignment, teachers can then add content to the assignment. Please see our article on content formats to have a better understanding of the different content formats. Teachers are also able to add banner images to any assignments. Please view our article on banner images for better assistance with adding banner images.

Google Assignment Integration

Teachers are also able to upload Google assignments into the newly made assignments. This allows teachers to create assignments with Google assignments and upload content directly into the assignment. By using Google assignments students will be able to work directly on the document or assignment given to them for the class. For more information on this feature, click here to access the Google Assignments article for more details.
